BusSchool Visits: Free Bus Trip
The Friends would like to encourage Santa Fe Public School children to become acquainted with their public library. We believe that a library visit can encourage a lifetime of library use. To fa ciliate the field trip, the Friends will underwrite bus transportation for one visit per Santa Fe Public School Elementary and Middle School class each school year. Summer Reading
Every summer the Santa Fe Public Library presents a Summer Reading Program. Each week in June and July will feature a fun craft, family program, or both! Free programs include: magic, music, wildlife and more! A circus act, cool crafts, and strange musical instruments are all a part of this summer’s magical, scientific, and crazy summer reading program extravaganza! Toddlers and children ages 0 through 12 are eligible to participate in the Summer Reading Program. Children may read on their own or parents (grandparents, etc.) may read to their children. They can read their own books or library books. All children who participate in the summer reading program will receive a certificate showing their reading accomplishment. At the end of the 8 weeks, an end-of-summer party will be held at each branch with a drawing for special prizes.

Books for Babies New MexicoBooks for Babies
Books for Babies New Mexico, a partnership between the Santa Fe Public Library, Friends of the Santa Fe Public Library and St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, was created to stress the importance of reading to children at an early age. Beginning with the first baby of 2012, every child born in the hospital will go home with a brightly colored canvas bag containing a book, a CD of lullabies, an innovative die-cut brochure on the importance of reading to babies (which can be folded into a box), an application for a library card, and information on community resources. Printed on the side of the bags, soon to be seen all over town: “I read to my baby every day.” Contributions to purchase books for the program can be made to the Books for Babies NM Fund c/o St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, 455 St. Michael’s Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
