Fray Angelica Chavez History Library
113 Lincoln Avenue
Join us as we travel back in time to celebrate Santa Fe's first permanent Library. Constructed in 1907 by the Woman's Board of Trade at the cost of $8,901, funds were raised mostly with cake sales, Fiesta parties, charity balls, Valentine dances, "Leap Year Frolics," and vaudeville shows, plus $1,000 from the Territorial Legislature. The building now houses the New Mexico History Museum's distinguished Chavez Library named after historian Fray Angelico Chavez. Join the Friends for coffee and refreshments at 10am. Librarian and Archivist Heather McClure will talk about the Chavez Library's notable collections including the papers of Adolph Bandelier, Edgar L. Hewett, Ernest Blumenschein and the Woman's Board of Trade, followed by a tour of the Library.
